Happy Halloween with veganmealprepper.com

Yes, it’s this time of the year again! Time to elaborate on what costume to put on this year, creepy or cartoon, trunk or treat, trick or treat, scary or silly decoration, to invite friends over, go to someone else’s potluck or none of it just burying your head under the sheets.

Whatever you decide, some food needs to keep you going. And I kid you not – if you’re a vegan, you will want to eat vegan food on Halloween as well.

Here is a selection of a few of my recipes that can be made Halloween-suitable without much effort thanks to their

  • creepy color
  • texture
  • versatility

Melted Hulk

Bright green from peas and mint makes an ideal “Melted Hulk” like I prefer to call it:

If your guests don’t really see a melted Hulk here, why not putting melted-Hulk-mint-pea-dip on rice crackers and make it a little more alive such as this creative mind from Keeping the Peas.

Frankenstein Oats

I got to admit, I never really understood why is Frankenstein’s monster green. His key features, a squared head, an elongated forehead, stitches on his face, bolts in his neck, and opaque green skin are seen in every of the movies. Funny enough, most of these features are nowhere to be seen in Mary Shelley’s original Frankenstein. The book rarely describes the shape of the monster’s head and remains silent as to bolts or stitch placement– such embellishments are nothing more than the product of later creative interpretation– but the monster’s color is explicitly stated. And guess what – it’s not green. But yellow. Did you know?

I hope this little literature and filmology lesson makes for a good chat with any Frankensteins you run into. Make sure to fill up on a healthy breakfast. Monsters watch their diet too, you know.

Even if you can’t attend any Halloween party, you can still have on for yourself. Simply paint the jar in which you serve your Frankenstein Oats just like Healthy Little Foodies do in their post here.

Carrot Cake Snails

Depending on where you live, you might not find a snail on your plate scary at all. France, Spain, Italy, Portugal eat what is commonly known as garden snail or vineyard snail and in North Africa like Morocco and Algeria serve Giant African Snail. However, if the only connection you have with snails and food is snails eating your tomatoes in the garden, these Carrot Cake Snails might be right for you.

Put 2 pairs of tentacles with eyes on these Carrot Cake Balls and you’re good to go. Check Pinterest for some inspiration.

Dracula’s Honor Cocktail

Dracula is not exactly a smoothie-kind-of-guy. The story goes that Dracula attempts to move from Transylvania to England so that he may find new blood and spread the undead curse. Nevertheless, let’s make a toast and honor. Follow the recipe stated below and add in vodka as you please. Unless you’re attending a kids’ Halloween party and had to dress up as some grapes because creepy isn’t allowed.

If you try any of these recipes, let me know! Leave a comment, rate it, and tag your Instagram photos with #theveganprepper. I absolutely love seeing your creations. Happy cooking!
