About me

About me

Growing up, veggies were raw on my plate. In yet-to-glow East Germany times were rough in the early 90. Even though bananas and oranges were not scarce anymore, the awareness for the jeopardy that capitalistic agriculture brought upon us was yet to rise. Kindergarten dishes were loaded with cheap pork and overcooked potatoes. The state of the art fruit of that time was compote – with vitamins and minerals long deceased.

After graduating high school I was up and about and couldn’t wait to move to a big city to attend university. That “Big city” has defined me as who I am during the past 10 years. But the only constant is change.
It wasn’t until my early tween years that food eventually started to play a major role in my life:

4 months pregnant in Albania – Can you tell?

I became a vegan 6 years ago after suffering a long and exhausting period of constant middle ear infections, colds, long-lasting coughs. During a trip down under to the mighty land of koalas and kangaroos a doctor advised to skip dairy product if one is asthmatic. I went a little further and detoxed for 10 days only to experience that after one day of doing so my intense dust mite allergies were gone once and for all. The past 6 years of my life have been a journey to health. Every single day I am grateful to have found the amazing transformation that food can make in our lives.

Quite exactly 10 years after packing my bags to leave for my first adventure in a metropolitan city, I find myself in a village –  with no supermarket or farmer’s market within walkable distance. Grocery shopping is limited to once a week when transportation is available or online supermarkets that delivery into deserted areas. Consequently, I needed to plan well ahead what the upcoming week should look like foodwise.

Every recipe I post on here is required to win over my husband’s approval. At the time, Hector was a Kazahk food lover and would turn down any homemade dish over a store bought industrial product. Coming up with healthy dishes that he claimed to not cause winds or constipation was a difficult task, but I was happy to embrace the challenge! I didn’t come from a food or photography background (nope, I barely knew how to cook rice), so everything you see on this blog is approved trial and error.
Very recently, a bundle of joy arrived into my life and the one of my loving and supportive husband. I had to learn the hard way that being a mother requires full self-abandonment and many sacrifices and is incredibly rewarding. With my baby girl eating up most of the day’s time I needed to be ahead of things when it comes to meal prepping. The last few weeks of my pregnancy when already enjoying the benefits of an overly generous social security system, I prepped for the postnatal period. We wanted to spend the postnatal period in the best possible way fully embracing the little miracle that entered our lives. So the pantry needed to be stocked up with food as ready-made as possible.
Slowly, I worked out how to plan out meals ahead with relatively little time input and delightful outputs.

It doesn’t take more than 3 hours of your time including grocery shopping and a bunch of Tupperware and/or mason jars.
